Manic depression is a serious mental health problem involving extreme swings of mood (highs and lows). It is also known as Bi-polar Affective Disorder. Both men and women, of any age from adolescence onwards and from any social or ethnic background, can develop manic depression. Children and young people may display anti-social behaviours, which are the visible signs of deep hurt, anger or frustration with aspects of their lives. When behaviour becomes so difficult that it effects a childs development, it can be known as a conduct disorder. Teenagers with conduct disorder may become involved in criminal activity, be excluded from schools, families and society. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

COURSE OVERVIEW
This one-day workshop will give participants grounding in understanding CBT. The workshop incorporates a brief introduction to basic CBT theory, but the main aim is to teach participants the CBT skills of identifying clients and challenging cognitive distortions. The workshop is a creative mix of lectures, group discussions, exercises and a little “fringe theatre”. The workshop leaders will role-play clients, and workshop participants in small groups will follow through the different stages of assessment, finally producing a CBT formulation for the ‘client'

Depression and Anxiety in Young People

Most people, children as well as adults, feel low or ‘blue' occasionally. Feeling sad or anxious is a normal reaction to experiences that are stressful or upsetting. When these feelings go on and on, or dominate and interfere with your whole life, it can become an illness. Depression probably affects one in every 200 children under 12 years old and two to three in every 100 teenagers.

This one day course gives an overview of the subject for professionals who want to increase their theoretical understanding and practical confidence in relation to emotional development and well-being.
