Manual handling injuries are part of a wider group of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). The term ‘musculoskeletal disorders’ covers any injury, damage or disorder of the joints or other tissues in the upper/lower limbs or the back. MSD cases, including manual handling, make up over a third of work-related illnesses according to LFS statistics.

Manual lifting training courses take place on employers premises. This causes less disruption of production. It also gives the most relevant practical demonstration for the trainees. We will be able to practice some of the manual handling techniques within the trainee’s normal working environment.
As an employer, you must comply with the risk assessment requirements set out in the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999. Furthermore, as well as the requirement in the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 (MHOR) to carry out a risk assessment on manual handling tasks.
Training alone won’t ensure safe manual handling. First, design operations to be safe. Monitor and review procedures to ensure workers understand and apply them.
